What is Sprite Scratch?

Sprite scratch is a character controlled by your initial code. For example, you can write some codes to make your sprite move or talk. This sprite can be in the form of things, ranging from humans to animals to objects. All initial programs are loaded by default with a cat sprite but you can choose whatever you want!

Sprite scratches in the library

When you start the initial program, you have access to the Sprite library with many options to choose from. There is a circular icon in the lower right corner that has a cat symbol and plus sign. Clicking this will show you all sprite in the library that you can add to your program. For example, some of the sprite that you can find in the library are penguins, starfish, and dinosaurs.

How do you get more sprite at the beginning?

If you can’t find the sprite you are looking for in the library, you can make your own. If there is a sprite in the library that is close to what you want, you can make changes by going to the “costume” tab. There, you will have an option to change the color of the sprite and delete or add features. You can also create your own custom sprite!

Option 2 create a sprite from your own image

If you want to make a special sprite based on images, like one of yourself or outside the internet, you first have to save images to your computer. Then, follow these easy steps:

1. Perform a fast google search for objects or items or characters

Click on the “image” tab to see the results of the image. Then click “Tool” and under the Drop -Down open “Right to Use” and then select Creative Commons License. Now you will be able to see all images that are not copyright, which you can use for your fun project. Save one to your computer. Websites such as Pixabay and Unssplash are also a good place to get free images.

2. Get rid of the background

Also choose one with a transparent background so that your sprite looks completely like being in your initial project background. You can use a device like this to delete the background of your image and make it transparent too.

3. Upload to scratch

Then point the symbol to add a sprite from the library. This time you want to choose the option above to upload images from your computer.
